How To Disable Laptop Mic And Use Headset?:The Solution

Follow the steps given below to combat this problem immediately.

  • Step 1: Turn On your laptop and unlock it. You should see the desktop screen of your laptop.
  • Step 2: In the down-left corner of your screen, you should see a WINDOWS icon. That’s the start menu icon. Click on it.
  • Step 3: Then, the start menu will open in front of you. On the keyboard, type “CONTROL PANEL.” The computer should immediately show the CONTROL PANEL app icon in front of you. Click on it.
  • Step 4: After clicking on the control panel icon, the control panel should open in front of you and view a few categories of settings options. Among these options, you’ll find an option with the heading “HARDWARE AND SOUND.” Right-click on it.
  • Step 5: Now, you’ll see a few more categories of options and their icons. From there, find the option with the label “SOUND.” This option will have a speaker-like icon with it. Click on it.
  • Step 6: Upon clicking on the SOUND icon, a small window will open in front of you, which will have 4 tabs: PAYBACK, RECORDING, SOUNDS, COMMUNICATIONS.from these 4 tabs, click on the RECORDING tab.
  • Step 7: In this tab, you see a list of challenging words used for recording. You should see your internal microphone and your headset microphone in this list. The internal microphone will have a label as “MICROPHONE” with a physical microphone-like icon. The external headset microphone will have a label as “HEADSET.”
  • Step 8: Right-click on the MICROPHONE icon and click on the option “DISABLE.” Upon clicking on the DISABLE option, the internal microphone of the laptop should instantly turn off.
  • Step 9: Close the window. If you re-enter the RECORDING tab, you see that only the HEADSET microphone is active for recording. 

That’s it. If you follow the above steps carefully, you should have the problem solved. In the case that the problem persists, consider reinstalling all the sound drivers of your laptop.
